Importance of Changing Up Your Workouts
I love me some routines.
I appreciate a good morning routine, night-time routine, skincare routine, and especially a gym routine. Once youβre in a good gym routine, you can become almost addicted to exercise.
But just as important as it is to have routines, it's important to break them too! π₯
If you go to the gym and do the same workouts you're comfortable with every time...eventually, all that hard work won't be doing too much. You might hit a plateau in your training. If you are'nβt using progressive overload or simply just doing the same workouts for months on months, you probably are going to become stagnant with your progress.
Why? Because your muscles aren't being challenged enough!
To grow your muscles, you need to tear up your muscle fibers a bit (sounds painful I know, but #gains) and let them recover/rebuild. When they rebuild, they grow and become stronger.
But when you stick to the same exact movements every time, your muscles get used to them. π
Here are some ways you can keep your training interesting and avoid plateauing:
πΈ If you use either barbells OR dumbbells when you lift, try alternating between both!
πΈ Try doing more split body-part exercise days (isolating one muscle group at a time) if you typically do full-body (or vise versa)
πΈ If you usually do cardio on machines like the treadmill or elliptical, try rowing, a stationary bike, or get on a run outside!
πΈ If you usually spend hours at the gym, try working out in short (but intense) bursts instead! (or vise versa)
The list goes on and on β there are so many fun ways to spice things up πΆοΈ
But hopefully, this gives you an idea of what you can do differently next time you're at the gym!
Happy training π€
