How to become confident using weights in the gym
Whether you’re starting out at the gym or you’ve been going for a little while, it can feel super scary if you haven’t weight lifted before. Especially for women if you’re not comfortable going in the weights room when it’s full of men!
Before I get into this blog, let me remind you that you deserve a place in that gym just as much as they do!
Ok so it takes time and practice to gain more confidence in the gym but it can be done. Here are three tips on how you can get there.
1. Start small and work your way up
Test out the weight in your hands to see how comfortable it feels and gradually increase the weight the more confident you become.
2. Focus on your form and technique
It can become all to easy to be obsessive about how much you’re lifting but the most important thing is to ensure your technique is correct otherwise you might injure yourself! Ask someone working in the gym and remember it’s their job to help you.
3. Get support
You could ask a friend to come along with you and you can work out together. Or better yet you could get a coach on your side who knows exactly what their doing, can show you where to improve and support you as you lift heavier.
Make sure that you warm up, take breaks when you need to, and cool down properly too as stretching will help your body recover.
