adaptogens for stress

There's nothing better than mixing stress relief into a smoothie!

How do I do it? By using adaptogens!

If you're new here, hi! I'm Maddie and along with fitness and nutrition, I also love all things stress relief.

Stress plays a major role in our goals. Not managing our stress can have a direct impact on our progress.

But also, as a holistic health coach, I like to make sure anyone who works with me remembers that their mental health and mindset are JUST as important as their physical health.

So it's a major bonus when we can do things that take care of our physical bodies and mental health simultaneously!

Now back to adaptogens — what are they?

Adaptogens are herbal supplements that support homeostasis. Homeostasis is the word for a body in balance.

Let's break that down, because this is actually really relevant here...

When our bodies are NOT in balance, they are experiencing at least one stressor (environmental and/or internal).

And to be honest...this is the case for a LOT of the time. We're pretty much constantly doing things that stress out our bodies. *womp womp*

Does this mean we should just not care and not try to at least limit the amount of stress that's taking a toll on our bodies? Heck no!

Which is why the use of adaptogens (along with other techniques) is absolutely important, or at least worth considering!

Where can you find adaptogens?

Adaptogens are become widely used (for good reason) and it's pretty easy to find them now!

From farmer's markets, to health stores, to the supplement aisle at the grocery store — you can likely find popular adaptogens.

They are sometimes sold as powders or in dropper bottles for easy mixing. I like to add them to smoothies, coffee, or tea.

Which ones should I look for?

My favorite 4 adaptogens to keep an eye out for are:

🌱 Ashwagandha - supports cognitive function and relieves stress

🌱 Rhodiola - supports endurance and relieves stress

🌱 Ginseng - supports energy and reduces stress-related fatigue

🌱 Reishi - found to reduce the severity of chronic fatigue

Before investing in or taking ANY of these supplements, you should always talk to a doctor and do your own research. Supplements are HIGHLY concentrated!

Happy stress-relieving!
