5 ways you can improve your mindset for overall health & wellness

When we think of our wellness, often we think of physical movement and exercise which is fair as we use our bodies to move, lift weights, swim, run, walk etc. but our mental health is also such a key part of our wellness journey.

I am very much an advocate of having the right mindset in place before embarking on your wellness journey. You are bound to come up against challenges and it’s a strong mindset that is going to help get you through them!

So here are 5 ways you can strengthen your mindset:

1. Prioritize your self-care

It’s so important to take time for yourself whatever that looks like for you. Whether it’s reading, a 5-minute walk, a soak in the bath or meditating. Find what works best for you and incorporate it into your daily life. Even 5-10 minutes will make a difference.

2. Use positive affirmations

Get your journal out and ask yourself “what do I need to hear today?” and begin writing. Figure out what positive words reinforce your self-confidence and beliefs and repeat them on a regular basis.

3. Challenge negative thoughts

On the flip side when negative thoughts creep into your mind, challenge them. Where are they coming from, what story are you telling yourself? You don’t have to believe everything your mind tells you.

4. Be mindful of what content you consume

What kind of accounts do you follow on social media? Do they make you feel good or do they make you compare yourself & your life resulting in you feeling low? You get to curate your feed so get it full of people who make you feel good, inspire you and bring joy to your scroll.

5. Set intentions

You could also call this setting goals but with intention setting, it’s more about what you want to get from something you’re doing in the moment. E.g. if you’re about to meditate what is your intention for that meditation - want more focus, abundance, more calm? If you’re about to work out what is it you want from that session - to perfect your form, lift heavier, or build stamina? Once you have set your intention you focus more on the task at hand and get more out of it.

If you really want to upgrade your health journey, focus on having a healthy mindset too!

There are SO many ways to shift your mindset from negative, fixed, and perfectionistic towards positive, open to growth, and accepting of all outcomes.
