What is reverse dieting?
I’m willing to bet quite a lot on the fact if you’re a woman and you are reading this, you’ve spent some of your life in a caloric deficit, perhaps an extreme deficit at times.
Well, how would you feel if I was to tell you that living for long periods of time in such a deficit can negatively affect your metabolism and slow it right down affecting the rate at which you can lose weight?
I’m sad to say that it’s all true.
And yet so many of us are sold this bullsh*t vision by the media and diet culture that we need to hardly exist and take up as little space as possible to be accepted therefore drastically reducing our food intake, and negatively affecting our metabolism at the same time.
So, how can you start to reverse those harmful negative effects on your metabolism? With something called a reverse diet.
If you have been restricting or dieting for a period of time, a reverse diet seeks to gradually increase your food intake while tracking your body’s response to these changes with a view to helping you transition to a more normal eating pattern while avoiding the risk of gaining the weight back that you lost.
It’s key during this process to track your macros which are your protein, carbs and fats to ensure that you’re adding on the right amount for you each time you do an increase.
A huge benefit of counting macros (compared to counting calories) is that by eating the perfect amount of each for your personal needs, you are helping your body perform better in the gym and rebuild your muscle after your workouts.
It can be easy to make mistakes with reverse dieting so it’s really important you do it correctly and that is where having a coach on side comes in handy!
So if you want to boost your metabolism, lose weight with ease (when sometimes eating more!) and finally feel satisfied with what you eat, I can help! I myself have reverse dieted and have helped many women do exactly the same.
