How to Have a Balanced Summer
It's that time of the year again!
It's officially spring, and that means it's officially the season of bathing suits and shorts.
The thought of having to shop for the summer used to make me CRINGE. Not only was I not looking forward to it because I didn't feel confident in my own skin, but I felt major anxiety about how I would get through the many obstacles that would "throw me off from my goals" — or so I thought.
I knew there would be more BBQs, nights out, and vacations. So naturally, I was already plotting how was I going to make excuses for certain things in order to stay "on track" all summer long.
Looking back, it makes me so sad that I felt the need to calculate my entire summer before it even started. I can't go back in time, but I CAN learn from the past and finally live every summer to the fullest because I have a much healthier relationship with food, fitness and my body.
And today I get to support people in discovering that their summer CAN be fun, free, and balanced — rather than restricted and disappointing.
So here are 3 quick tips to help you get excited for a healthy, balanced, & fun summer!
Buy clothing that makes you feel good.
Everyone should feel confident, no matter what. All bodies are beautiful! And you deserve to rock clothing you feel amazing in.
For so many years, I used to believe that I was the issue. That I had to change my body to fit into smaller clothes. And if I couldn't, I was a failure.
In fact, this got even worse when I started to gain weight from weight lifting. My body changed and I still saw myself as the issue, even when I was working out consistently.
But I was so wrong. I wasn't the issue, and I had ALL the power in the world to buy different brands with clothing that fit me and made me feel confident.
I started finding clothing that CELEBRATED my body, instead of clothes that constricted it. I highly recommend it!
Remember that if your "ideal body" requires missing out on 95% of life, it's not your ideal body.
Overstressing, over-analyzing, and over-working yourself should not be required for you to love your body.
If you're missing out on the present moment because you're always worried about what you're going to eat at the party, how you can save calories on drinks, and what you'll do tomorrow to make up for it...
Then it's a sign your goal isn't realistic.
When you focus on nourishing yourself, striking a healthy balance, and moving regularly, I promise your body will start to thank you and gradually settle at a comfortable and healthy baseline. Our bodies LOVE balance.
You might find it's easier to achieve your goals by NOT giving up your favorite foods.
I would NEVER tell you to stop eating fast food or drinking alcohol. My goal is to help you enjoy the little things in life more often — not to take them away from you.
Telling you that you can’t have something is not fixing the problem; it actually makes it worse.
Mentally, real progress happens when you can look at those “hands-off” foods and make the conscious decision to eat it or not to eat it... and feel GOOD either way.
Physically, real progress happens when you allow your body foods it actually needs to function optimally (e.g. carbs which are SO essential).
If you've been cutting these foods out or plan to have a "low carb summer", I definitely suggest prioritizing balance and moderation instead! You CAN eat your favorite foods, and still see major sustainable results.
