How exercise can improve your mental health

You know about and recognise the benefits of exercise to our bodies and physical health but you’re wondering how is it exactly that exercise is good for your mental health too?

This is one of my favourite areas of holistic health so let’s dive in and let me tell ya how good exercise is for your mental health and mindset…

Anxiety, depresssion and stress relief

Regular exercise has been shown to help alleviate anxiety and depression, boost your overall mood and improve your cognitive functions.

When you work out, you produce endorphins - the brain's natural feel-good chemicals - and they promote feelings of happiness, and reduce pain, whilst at the same time reducing the levels of stress hormones in your body, those of which can contribute to anxiety and depression.

You can use exercise as a healthy way to manage difficult emotions, reducing stress and tension in turn helping you to deal with difficult things or situations in your life in a more constructive and positive way.

Feel empowered and proud

As well as the chemical benefits, exercise can give you a sense of accomplishment leading to a boost in your self-esteem by setting yourself goals and targets and smashing them out of the park!

Fnally, regular exercise helps to improve the quality of your sleep which is ESSENTIAL for helping you feel energized and better equipped to handle any challenges thrown at you during the day.

It doesn’t always have to include a huge workout at the gym to count. It can be getting away from your desk for a 10 minute walk, a lunchtime yoga class, or a swim at your local pool!

I can’t tell you how much incorporating regular movement in your days will boost your mental well-being! And once you start making a habit out of it, it becomes even easier.

I’d love to help you on your journey of improving your mental and physical health. It’s my absolute passion and I’m so grateful that I get to help people just like you form sustainable habits for a lifetime.
