Mindset shifts for your vacation
Going on vacation can be so triggering for some when it comes to food and drink. It can bring up uneasy feelings about body image and food, the fear of putting swimwear on, and showing off more of your body than you're used to.
Many tend to have the mindset of dieting all the way up until their trip away and then going all out for 1 or 2 weeks instead of having that mindset all year round and living life in balance.
One holiday can send people in a tizzy and so this blog will focus on some key mindset shifts you can make to ensure you’re not one of those people.
Food isn't the enemy, you can enjoy what you want, without guilt. If you’re someone who has strict rules around food all the way up until your holiday this one is for you. Restricting yourself for any period of time is bad, never mind just so you can get "into shape" for one holiday. Try having a more balanced approach every day instead. And remember food isn’t the enemy, food is neither good nor bad. It’s just food. There to be enjoyed.
It's okay if you want to take a break from exercise, and it's okay if you don't. If you wanna work out on your holiday do it! If you don't, don't. Don't beat yourself up for slipping out of your workout routine for 1 or 2 weeks. If you want to take a break from exercising, you're allowed. It’s that simple.
Don't buy into the pressure online of "getting your bikini body". This kind of pressure often leads people to restrict their diets in extreme ways. Looking after your health, fitness and mindset is a lifelong journey, not just something to do to look hot every summer. You can start looking after yourself in many different ways at any moment.
Be present in the moments of joy. Life is about so much more than your appearance. As they say, your body is the least interesting thing about you. So when you’re on your vacation remember to appreciate the moment, enjoy the chats with friends or family, and create special memories all of which mean so much more than the food and drink around you.
Loosen up your usual routine a little. Having a vacation is the perfect moment to relax and chill out. It doesn't matter if you don't eat at your usual time every time or eat the same thing you'd have at home, or hit your protein intake. It’s not forever, it’s just for now. Your routine can wait.
If you find going on vacation stressful because of food, drink and your body image, know you're not alone.
